Nominal capacity is the battery’s labelled total storage; usable capacity is the amount available for normal use under the manufacturer’s limits. Ask for both figures, continuous and peak power, the inverter arrangement and warranty terms.

Ask for an itemised proposal covering equipment models, installation scope, GST, exclusions, warranties, monitoring and any connection or electrical work. Keep the quote assumptions beside your recent bills when comparing options.

How do I choose a battery size?

Start with evening and overnight consumption, the surplus solar available after daytime use and the loads you want to support. Compare nominal kWh with usable kWh and check the battery’s continuous and peak power in kW.

Will a battery work with my existing solar?

Compatibility depends on the existing inverter and battery architecture. Some designs use an AC-coupled battery; others require a compatible hybrid inverter. The model, firmware, phase supply, age and electrical work must be checked.

Does single-phase or three-phase supply matter?

Yes. Inverter options, export limits, load distribution and backup arrangements can differ by phase. The quote should state your supply type and how the proposed system connects.

Can I run the whole home during a blackout?

Not automatically. Backup depends on the selected equipment, backup hardware, switchboard design, supported circuits and maximum power. Your quote must identify exactly what remains powered.

Is this an installed package or equipment only?

The assessment can clarify either request. An installed quote should itemise battery and inverter equipment, installation labour, electrical and switchboard work, commissioning and exclusions. Equipment-only enquiries should say that installation is not included.
